What is LED therapy? Light therapy has been proven to have a number of benefits for nearly every system within the human body. Red light, in particular, has become increasingly more popular for skin rejuvenation treatments in clinical settings, as well as at home. Why? As we age, a number of regenerative processes in the skin begin to gradually slow down – the skin becomes drier, starts to sag, loses volume, and starts showing spots and discolorations. Red and near infra-red wavelengths of light, when emitted at correct energy levels, have the potential to improve blood flow and oxygenation, as well as kickstart collagen and elastin production. The result is plumper, smoother, hydrated-looking skin.

What is the SkinLite LED face mask? SkinLite is a flexible, portable, at-home skincare tool that uses light emitting diodes (LED) to bathe the skin in beneficial light. SkinLite is based on the world's leading medical LED technology with over 34 clinical peer-reviewed papers.

How do SkinLite LED treatments work? SkinLite uses wavelengths of light (633nm and 830nm) that have been shown in studies to stimulate collagen and elastin production and to help improve blood flow and tissue oxygenation through a process called photo-biomodulation. These effects help skin cells absorb topical skincare products more effectively as well as reverse visible effects of the aging process.

Why do we not use Blue Light? Blue lights main role is to kill the P. acnes bacteria, and it works quite well for this. However it does not have anywhere near the impact on reducing redness, inflammation and circulation as Red/NIR does. This is where it is better to focus the power of a device whenever it's possible to kill the P. acnes bacteria in other ways. The solution for this is CliniPrep! CliniPrep kills 99.9% of bacteria, viruses, fungus, and spores, whilst promoting faster healing. So simply spray CliniPrep before using the Red/NIR light and the results for acne will actually be better than if Blue light mixed with Red light was used.

Are SkinLite treatments safe? SkinLite has been tested and is compliant to international safety standards, including international safety standard IEC62471. This test assesses potential skin and ocular damage due to harmful light emissions. SkinLite passed this test and was not found to contain any harmful UV rays.

Are SkinLite treatments painful? No pain should be felt while using SkinLite. The light penetrates the skin and stimulates the cells to work in a natural way. SkinLite treatments are non-invasive and do not produce heat, therefore making the treatments completely pain free. Are SkinLite treatment suitable for everyone? Since SkinLite generates no heat, most people are suitable, but there is a list of contraindications that should be referred to by anyone who is thinking of having a SkinLite treatment. What results can I expect?

Fine Lines & Wrinkles
After 3 Treatments per week for 4 weeks; up to 41% reduction of wrinkles, with reduction in redness and softer, smoother, rehydrated skin.

Improved Skin Texture
After 1 Treatment per week for 4 weeks; 41% improvement in skin texture and smoothness, showing hydration and cell turnover increase and after 3 treatments per week for 4 weeks 95% showed an improvement in texture, firmness and skin tone.

How often do I need to use SkinLite? For best results we recommend that you treat for 3-5 days a week for a minimum of 4 weeks. We recommend maintenance treatments to ensure you keep your skin looking younger and fresher.

Can I use SkinLite with my own skincare? SkinLite has been proven in trials to greatly improve skin parameters such as hydration, texture and pigmentation. SkinLite improves tissue oxygenation and blood flow and therefore absorption of skin care will be greatly improved. SkinLite is compatible with most normal skin care routines although we do highly recommend using it in conjunction with the SkinLite hydrogel mask for best results.

Can I combine SkinLite with other aesthetic treatments? Yes, SkinLite can be combined with more invasive treatments such as botulinum toxin, peels, injectables and laser resurfacing. It can help in the healing process and help to reduce bruising and swelling due to its anti-inflammatory properties.

Phototherapy is the exposure of cells and tissue to low levels of visible or near infrared light and with over 1000 studies on the effects of light on the body the science has been well and truly proven. Red and near-infrared light interacts with the cytochrome c oxidase, or CCO, a photosensitive enzyme found within the mitochondria. This biochemical effect strengthens the mitochondria which are the powerhouse of the cell. This then starts a cascade of inter and extracellular reactions that promotes healthier skin by making more ATP (adenosine triphosphate) the energy-carrying molecule found in the cells of all living things. With more energy, cells can function more efficiently, rejuvenate themselves, and repair damage. Studies have demonstrated that red light at 630nm and near infra-red light at 830nm with specific energy levels:

Light-therapy devices use different kinds of light, from the visible spectrum - red, orange, yellow, green, and blue to the invisible, near-infrared light (NIR). However, the effects of red and near-infrared light are the most studied; red light is often used to treat skin conditions, whereas NIR can penetrate much deeper, working its way through skin and bone and even into the brain. Blue light is thought to be especially good for treating acne but the effects of orange, yellow and green light are less understood, and may be more of a gimmick.

A common misconception with Light-therapy devices is the more wavelengths (colors) the better the device, however LEDs by their very nature can only be programmed to one wavelength. Therefore, adding more wavelengths means less power for each wavelength. Why is this an important factor? A certain level of energy is required to start the biochemical reaction in the cell. If the device is dividing that energy into different colors then it may not have enough output in the important Red/NIR wavelengths to get the desired results, making the device ineffective.
