National Healthy Skin Month: Are your skincare products helping or hurting your skin?

Pumpkin face masks, cooler temperatures and “National Healthy Skin Month” are just some of the reasons we love November! Healthy, glowing skin is just about what everyone truly desires, but what does this really mean? First and foremost, healthy skin is well-balanced. This means that its oil production is stabilized, it has a strong barrier, and it appears even-toned and hydrated.

If your skin seems dull, has frequent breakouts or is showing signs of premature aging, take a close look at the products you are incorporating in your skincare routine.

  • Do your skincare products contain ingredients that address your specific skin challenge?
  • Do they have the proper concentrations of active ingredients to be effective?
  • Does your skincare routine have complementary products, or do the ingredients conflict or cancel each other out?

With skincare, as with most things, the general rule is quality over quantity. Fewer products with higher potency will help you reach your skin goal faster.

Here are a few ingredients to keep in mind when looking for the best products for your skin:

Antioxidants for Anti-Aging

Antioxidants are often found in skincare product formulas because of their powerful anti-aging benefits. Antioxidants help protect the skin’s surface from oxidative damage caused by free radicals and environmental aggressors such as UV and pollution. Vitamin C is a very powerful antioxidant and is the primary ingredient in Dp Dermaceuticals’ Antioxidant Cocktail

This serum is an anti-aging environmental shield that guards against free radical attacks. The Antioxidant Cocktail also reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by reducing the aging effects of pollution, stress and prolonged sun exposure.

Vitamin E is also a powerful antioxidant that reinforces the skin’s barrier function and is featured in products such as Vitamin Rich Repair and the TriPhase Cleanser.

Retinaldehyde for Cellular Turnover

Cellular turnover is the continuous process of shedding dead skin cells and replacing them with younger cells, thus giving your skin a healthy glow. This  process happens naturally, but your body will sometimes need a little push to quicken this process.

Retinaldehyde is the most potent form of Vitamin A available without prescription and is a very important ingredient for cellular turnover. It promotes skin cellular turnover and improves skin tone. It also helps unclog pores, and thickens the dermis to slow down the formation of wrinkles.

It's no wonder that Dp Dermaceuticals’ Retinal Active and R.E.R. Eye Serum, which both contain retinaldehyde, are all-time favorites among customers and treatment providers alike. These two products are great anti-aging products that help combat skin damage from the sun.

Retinal Active is a potent anti-aging cream that regulates healthy cell renewal and aims to reverse the appearance of deep wrinkles, scars, and atrophy. R.E.R. Eye Serum is a powerful eye serum that combines rejuvenation properties and anti-aging antioxidants. It actively works to help lessen the visible signs of skin damage from sun and aging.

Nourishing Ingredients

When it comes to nourishing ingredients, Vitamin E is your best bet. In addition to being a powerful antioxidant that mimics the skin’s own barrier function, Vitamin E is an excellent nourishing agent.

Vitamin E functions as both a humectant (to absorb water into the skin) and an emollient (traps water in the skin). This ensures maximum nourishing and hydration of the skin while protecting it from harmful factors.

Vitamin Rich Repair is the ideal pre-moisturizer, infused with vitamin E to nourish your skin. This cream also works to visibly firm and lift. Vitamin Rich Repair also improves atrophied contours in the skin and promotes intensive rebuilding and repair.

Gentle Exfoliants

Exfoliation is a key step towards getting healthy skin. Exfoliation gets rid of dead skin cells on the surface and reveals glowing new skin beneath. Harsh exfoliants may lead to redness, irritation, breakouts, and damage to your moisture barrier. Gentle exfoliants such as bamboo powder and lactic acid are ideal and will leave the skin feeling refreshed and smooth.

Microderm Exfoliant is DP Dermaceuticals' signature exfoliant for sensitive skin. It removes dulling residue and dead skin cells for a brighter effect. With the addition of bamboo powder, this exfoliant gently buffs and exfoliates for a non-abrasive finish.

This exfoliant also contains lactic acid, a gentle Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) that works to prevent congestion. This helps to stimulate cell turnover, which reduces hyperpigmentation and brightens skin.

Protective ingredients

It stands to reason that in order to get healthy skin, you need ingredients to protect your skin from harsh environmental factors. Zinc Oxide is a powerful ingredient that works to protect the skin from sun damage and heal any wounds or scars. Zinc oxide is a key ingredient in sunscreens and is one of the main ingredients in Cover Recover.

Cover Recover is Dp Dermaceuticals’ own sunscreen, foundation and healing cream. Cover Recover reduces the appearance of inflammation and redness. Other added benefits include encouraging intensive regeneration and repair and softening the appearance of fine and deep lines.

When it comes to healthy skin, Dp Dermaceuticals skin care line has you covered. Our wide range of products contains the most potent, safest and high quality ingredients to get you to your desired results faster.
